What better place than a tavern to ask for some posing advice! Which of these poses do ya'll think is better? Why? I personally think #1 and #2 are the best, but #3 won me a place in Shade's show, even though I think it is horribly mis-aligned and the tail is not the best tail. What do ya'll think? (I'm also practicing my judging so when I judge I am fair and understanding) Edit: This one has to do with breathing points, which of these is the best breath point? I personally like #2 because the tail looks the best :3 I also think this is the perfect pose for this child!

So I copied your poses into gimp, here is my analysis of each one A-1 Looking at the feet, they line up. The eyes are also even, also indicated alignment. I know we've talked about cat poses before and the "back leg gap", lepitaurs don't really get that big of a gap naturally without being slightly out of alignment so the tinny one in this is perfect(Some judges may put more value in that but since it's a wild I go for legs). He appears to be in a maximum breathing point(what you want) which is how you get the right tail alignment. A2, this pose has the same positive alignment points as A1, including the tail. The biggest difference is that in this one you can see both eye triangle edges on the outside of the eye on both eyes. For this reason I like this pose better than A1. You're right, the alignment is not the best in this pose, Look at the feet there is a pixel off. The gap is bigger than A1 or A2, which usually means good alignment in catz. The tail alignment isn't perfect either, it isn't the perfect inhale but it is close. A4, you can see alignment off, there is absolutely no gap between the back legs(which very few breeds actually have this) and the head tilt makes the expression "eh" and it is further from full inhale than A3. A5, we have the same issues as A4 only the head tilt is even worse. I've seen very few judges that actually like head tilts so I don't recomend having them in a pose ever. If I were to rank these poses from best to worst I would got A2, A1, A3, A4, A5. B1, So looking at the feet the line shows they are aligned only a pixle off. Considering how small the lepitaur community is right now I doubt it is much of a big deal. You have a nice expression. The tail though(drop tails are difficult) isn't as "high" as it could be, indicating it isn't the top breathing point but it isn't super noticeable that it isn't either. B2, again we have a nice expression with the slightly unaligned feet. The tail however, notice the slightly larger gap between tail and bum? This to me indicates the higher breathing point that we want. B3, again we see slightly off alignment, and a nice facial expression. The breathing point seems okay but the tail looks kinda thin. If I had to guess I would guess they were twitching their tail when the picture was shot. With a longer tail there would probably be "kinks" at the time but with this short one it just looks skinny. I would rank these from best to worst B2, B1, B3 There are multiple things to keep in mind and some judges put different weight on them. Like the head tilt in A4, some judges might like it/find it cute. Personally Between Expression and Alignment are the two I put the most weight on. If the tail is obviously not in position I will pay attention but not if it's only slightly off. I hope this helps some, if I can clarify anything just let me know

Shade THANK YOU SO MUCH! <3 I am so grateful for this feedback!! (Does that bottom feet alignment also work with catz??) I do have a question about "expression". What do you look for with expression?

Yes it does. As for expression it depends on the breed. Like Chion(the chinchilla) has a "worried" expression which is acceptable in that breed because one of the ways to pose them is with the perfume bottle. Persians, chinchillas, alleys, and oshies can call be posed with the perfume bottle. If the calico had the same expression it would be wrong(because she's pure bred) but lets say she was a mixie with an alley personality, the "worried" expression is acceptable. As a general rule you want even eyelids(on catz no eyelid is ideal, especially with show breeds). You don't want them angry or worried except on certain breeds where it is acceptable(though not always ideal), both eyes are faceing towards the camera, focused, not staring off in another direction. Mouth should be closed. No Jaw rolls. Jaw rolls No jaw roll Jaw rolls are bassically the bottom jaw rolling out, it kinda makes the appearance of an under bite. I look for even eye ballz which is why you can see the top line across the eyes in each picture.
